HackMoor 2017/12/21 BlackMoor Dungeon - Down to Level Four - tmjva - 12-27-2017

Games are (usually) on Thursday nights sometime after 5:30PM at World's Best Comics, 9714 Warwick Blvd Newport News, Virginia 23601.

Next game is Tomorrow. It would normally be our alternate game week but a key Player is back in town for awhile. It should be HackMaster this week and the next.

I forgot what pizza we had. But since we had a quorum, we actually managed to play and I'm happy for that.

PART 1.

++++ START OF SESSION ++++

The Party picked up where we left off in the furnace room of Level 3. After they had dealt with a Fire Elemental who apparently was the HVAC for this level and above.

They took the northbound passageway on the northwest corner of the room, went past two down staircases and turned west at the Y intersection. They turned a corner and went west, bypassing another Y intersection and an up staircase. Next they went into a triangular room with another up staircase at one end. In the center there were two skeletons lying on the ground holding swords buried into the chest cavity of the other.

Huang went over to check out the skeletons and a pit trap opened up beneath him. Being a Monk with quick moves he was able to avoid falling in but a ghost like apparition rose up and took a swing at him. Battle ensued, both Huang and Honda fighting back with their magic swords without the apparition making a hit. Finding nothing else of import they declined going up the stairs and doubled back, going southeast down the other branch of the Y intersection.

Although it came to a dead end, Jacko found a secret door and the party passed through, finding another door in about 20 more feet. Going through they found themselves back at the rapidly cooling fire pit.

Having noted the first down staircase they passed going northbound the Party decided to take it down where it ended up in a square chamber with one other exit that was also a garbage pit. And yes, there was a tentacled stalk peering up from the garbage, but no, the walls were not going to compress them. Once again Huang and Honda took the brunt of the fight to the monster, which apparently could stand on three stumpy legs and fought with other tentacles and a huge gaping maw. They only got bit a couple of times, but they were only flesh wounds.

After the fight the Party heard marching footsteps coming from the exit and a hearty "Hi-dee-hi-dee-hi, hee-hee-dee-ho, ... man."

Piqued by curiosity, members of the Party who had not retreated up the staircase decided to hide in the garbage to see who they where. They espied four small-statured, dark-skinned guys wearing wide long legged trousers, long overcoats with wide lapels over their chainmail, complete with wide brimmed floppy hats and a gold looped chain hanging from their vests. Thereupon they tossed in several bags of garbage. Shuffling their feet then doing an about face in unison, they changed their routine to sing Minnie the Moocher and departed. Grok recognized them as his tribal cousins that turned to evil, dark dwarves, Duergar.

The Party decided to ambush them from the rear.

Waiting until they got some distance down the hall from the garbage pile. Grok sent down a Phantasmal Fireball spell, none of the made their saving throw and the four Duergar took eleven hit points of damage. Taking the hint that it must have been a magic user, they fled. The party gave chase, albeit their slow movement rate meant the party caught up. Huang and Honda did some leaping moves as though from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (but without wires), they leapt ahead and cut them off.

The party simply butchered them without quarter.
