The Cthonian Age - Rafael - 02-02-2010 ^And what does Cthonia mean? - Havard - 02-02-2010 Rafael Wrote:^And what does Cthonia mean? Cthonian could refer to: 1) Creature dwelling underground 2) Underground monsters (demons?) from Greek Mythology 3) Creatures out of Lovecraft Add a bit of Mystara and Blackmoor lore to this and I will have a sourcebook for you... Havard - Rafael - 02-02-2010 Thanks! Now, how to work that into the timeline? - Hmmmmm... http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Cthon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chthon_(Marvel_Comics) http://www.cracked.com/forums/topic/19675/house-chthon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chthonic I RULE that in our version of Blackmoor, the Cthons shall be VAMPIRE-LIKE creatures. WHat about making them proto-dwarves? As the civilisation at the time of the Cthonic era, I already set the reptilions/Thracians. - Havard - 02-02-2010 Rafael Wrote:Thanks! Now, how to work that into the timeline? - Hmmmmm... Patience my friend! As I said I have ideas for about 100 pages on this subject. A reptilian civilization fits very well with my ideas for the Cthonic Era. Working Vampires in might be trickier, but can be done. In my version, "Cthonians" does not refer to one race, but a wide range of entities with links to the Egg of Coot and the God of Id. The name is probably derived from a race of huge burrowing worms which lived underground. At the end of their age, the worms fell into a deep sleep, but through their dreams they still sometimes influence people on the surface, leading them to the path of evil. Havard - Rafael - 02-02-2010 Hehehe, ALL IN THE CAMPAIGN WE'RE PLAYING. You'll see what I mean before chapter 1 is over. But basically, yes, that's a cool idea. Problem is, for our game alone, I have already decided something else. ...Remember when I told you not to investigate Sir Fang? SO, I'll simply shut up and let you do. - Havard - 02-02-2010 Rafael Wrote:Hehehe, ALL IN THE CAMPAIGN WE'RE PLAYING. Havard - Rafael - 02-02-2010 Let's leave it at the entire DoCBM being a very cthulhuesque book. Or better, Ashton-Smithian. That adventure with the silly MP3s, I actually bought it... - Havard - 02-02-2010 Rafael Wrote:Let's leave it at the entire DoCBM being a very cthulhuesque book. Indeed. IMO there has always been a Cthulhu-esque element lurking in the background of the Blackmoor campaign. I am borrowing from several authors who used the Cthulhu Mythos: Lovecraft, Ashton Smith and REHowards. In particular I emphasize on the REH spin of the whole thing though. Fundamentally Blackmoor is fantasy rather than horror. But I like that you mention Ashton Smith as I am working on something big there as well...
