Stocking Lake Gloomey style - aldarron - 08-18-2014

I sorted out and cleaned up Dave's Loch Gloomen stocking tables and posted to my blog here http://boggswood.blogspot.com/2014/08/stocking-blackmoor-wilds-in-1972.html

Very nice! Some good stuff on your blog. I need to remember to go there more often to poke around. Big Grin

Thanks Marv! I got a backlog of stuff I'm trying to clean up and get posted.

Glad to hear it. What I need to do is go through your blog with a Word doc handy, then copy-paste until I have an archive copy of your Blackmoor stuff. It's like gold! Big Grin

Wish I could get motivated to do something similar.

I smell a third book there, Aldy. Smile

Okay, I am taking another look at this in connection to trying to make a map of Lake Gloomy. Have you figured out how Arneson placed the buildings and other locations on the map as well?

Dave says: "Summary: 12 Special areas located in random directions and distances from the "lsland". Distance: 2 die Direction."

Is there any way to turn those rolled up locations into a map? Dave does not give out info on what he rolled, just what was found, right?

Not exactly the same, but you could make a new one.

It may be possible to recreate the process. The random direction part is the easy bit. In the map section, Arneson talks about specifying the direction of an encounter by randomly rolling on the direction chart (outdoor survival), and about rolling a die to determine lair locations within a hex. Hexes are 10 miles. If you assume the island is itself a hex then 2d6 in one mile increments covers 1 adjacent hex. Meaning 2 = 1 mile, 3 = 2 mile, etc. starting from an edge determined randomly (northeast for example). You could also assume that 12 (or 2) equaled 0, meaning on the island. Actually, for the purpose of a relative map you wouldn't need to specify the distance (1 mile, or whatever).

Not quite sure what you mean. The info in the FFC is what was stocked in the location. It's like a dungeon key, not just what the PC's may have actually found. Dave's actual dice roll numbers aren't mentioned.
