Re: The Hello Thread! - balrog62 - 10-03-2019

Greetings all!

Thank you for accepting me into the board. Been playing D&D since 1979. Started with the white box and supplements. Picked up all the Judges Guild stuff I could find. Moved to 1st ed, skipped 2nd ed (got married & had kids), returned with 3e, moved into 3.5e, then Pathfinder (hated 4e), and returned to my roots a few years before 5e. Now, I play B/X with a few friends, some AS&SH, but run 1e or Swords & Wizardry. I use JG's First Fantasy Campaign as my home starter for new players. Being a teacher gives me a new group to teach how to play every year. I did grab your update of Blackmoor, Havard, and really liked it. Thanks for doing that!

Looking to visit with other grognards and Blackmoor players.

Welcome to the Comeback Inn, balrog!

What sorts of adventures do you normally run? Do you recycle, or use fresh material every year?

Have any of your newly-minted players picked up the ball and run with the setting?

I tend to start with something simple, and recycled, like Keep on the Borderlands or a retro-fit of Crucible of Freya, then allow the players to move on from there. After they learn how table-top RP is different from computer or video games, I take them to Blackmoor and get them involved in the town and the dungeons there.

I've not had any really move into the Blackmoor/Mystara area yet. They see my homebrew stuff and then try to make their own. Some decide to just grab settings already out there and run with those.

I've been teaching kids to game since the start of 3e. Whenever we cross paths, they have lots of stories to share. It's so nice to see the hobby continuing to grow.

lokicrawl13 Wrote:Hi! I am relatively new to D&D and have only been playing for about two years, though I had read several of the novels and explored the settings for a few years before that. I’m preparing to DM for the first time as I’m trying to get my housemates into the game. I went to the local library and checked out a bunch of sourcebooks for inspiration, grabbed the Blackmoor book, and long story short ended up here.

Hello lokicrawl13! Great seeing you here too Smile

Which Blackmoor book do you have? The Hardcover one?

-Havard
Yeah, the Hardcover one. Right now I’m mainly looking for lore, as I’m coming up with what I’m going to run my players through.
