Is there a map of Khalibrun available (Lord Robilar are you reading this?) anywhere? Haven't found any Khalibrun maps yet. Will have to pick up the Maze of Zayene and see what info might be useful there. Meanwhile I've been playing with Havard's map. Basically, I wanted to get a kind of first Blackmoor world, based of Dave's handdrawn original and the notes he left in FFC. To which I would add details that were clearly favorites of Arnesons from later materials - Afridhi, Hak, Bleakwood, etc. and tie in information from Rob Kuntz's great kingdom and early Greyhawk (Greyhock on my map  ) Wilderlands, I diecided doesn't fit with the earliest Blackmoor and anyway Havards map has that version already. I moved so much around so many times I prolly should have started from scratch. Anyway, this is just a dirty sketch of how I'm thinking thigs might look. Ideas and suggestions are very welcome and changes can be expected as new info turns up. Some of the rational for why I moved things where is probably self evident. The greak kingdom is very roughly based on the Greyhawk map. There seemed to be too many countires in the north already so I removed Ritchies "Frisia" (a real place in europe anyway) and made it the land of Thralls; Moved Cirkhosia to a more mediterainian clime as I envision them to be a phonecian/japanese like trading peoples; Made the plains of Hak a lot bigger; moved Rhun to the continent as it is a kingdom with kingdoms on either side of it in the FFC, not an island. Put in Salik (as in Gin of); redrew blackmoor to match Arnesons original map; made Skhandaharia more like norse Greenland. There's still lots of blanks and provinces and such to work out so lets hear some ideas and critiques! ![]() Edit: Added Q for Quasqeton and moved the vales as per Quasqeton discussion. - Havard - 02-07-2010 Interesting Dan! I particularly like the fact that you included Dragon Island like that. I figured it might be an insland within a lake or something but this is perhaps more interesting. Having Salik as a separate country is interesting too. Cirkhosia as we discussed elsewhere was pretty randomly placed where I put it so I'm inclined to move it in my next version as well. The Western and Eastern Skandaharians don't make that much sense. Eastern and Western are derived from which direction they attacked Blackmoor. The Raiders of the West simply didnt have access to the North Sea. The Raiders of the East didnt have access to central Blackmoor untill the Egg of Coot flooded the elven lands. Havard - Rafael - 02-07-2010 I WANT THAT MAP IN HI-RES!!! - aldarron - 02-08-2010 Havard Wrote:Interesting Dan! Yeah. The FFC note is that "Dragon Island" is somehow located in Blackmoor Dungeon. That might have been a reference to the dragons on the lowest levels. I have don't know how much of those levels existed in the mid 1970's, but in any case I think there's a good chance the "level" it refers to is actually a gate to a place called Dragon Island. So I reckon it deserves a spot on the map. Havard Wrote:The Western and Eastern Skandaharians don't make that much sense. Eastern and Western are derived from which direction they attacked Blackmoor. Sounds complicated no matter how you draw the map. Is this DA series chronology? Well, Lets suppsose that the southern coast of East Scandahar is a massive cliff face with no natural harbors. The end of this clifff partly marks the border of east and west Skandahar. The Ost Skandahar have all their harbors on the north coast. West Skndahar's north coast, on the other hand, is largely Icebound and very dangerous to simply impossible to navigate. The south coast of West Scandahar is where all the Vest Skandahar live and harbour their boats. Thus they attack from different directions. Does that make sense? What do you think? - Havard - 02-08-2010 Aldarron Wrote:Yeah. The FFC note is that "Dragon Island" is somehow located in Blackmoor Dungeon. I guess in my version the Raiders of the East could also theoretically enter through the Firefrost Canal, but I assume the Raiders of the West control the canal. Havard - gsvenson - 02-08-2010 I like this map. It kind of fits my memory of how we viewed the Great Kingdom in relation to Blackmoor back in the early days. - aldarron - 02-10-2010 gsvenson Wrote:I like this map. It kind of fits my memory of how we viewed the Great Kingdom in relation to Blackmoor back in the early days. Thanks Greg! So, for the "Hi Res" version Rafe wants I'm thinking I'll probably do a hand drawn and scan it in. But that will have to wait till more of the names and such are fleshed out. So, are there 10 provinces in the great kingdom plus Blackmoor or did Blackmoor count as one of those ten? Havard mentioned the names of 4 provinces, Mohacs, Borno, Synobia, and Bolgere. If we were to add Greyhock and Khalibrun we would only need 3 or 4 more names to flesh that out. There's also a couple of kingdoms to fill in. Any more ideas anybody? - Havard - 02-11-2010 Aldarron Wrote:gsvenson Wrote:I like this map. If you want we can display it in the Freehold. Quote:So, are there 10 provinces in the great kingdom plus Blackmoor or did Blackmoor count as one of those ten? I think Blackmoor was the 11th Province. Also the other provinces are the size of the whole north each, not just the size of Blackmoor itself. Bolgere is my invention (based on Bolger, a dark skinned human race from DA1). I'd be tempted to turn Cirkhosia into another province myself. Maybe Bleakwood too, though I'm guessing Bleakwood is part of Borno actually. Not sure if Mohacs is a province. It is the name of the Imperial City. Havard |
