Re: The Hello Thread! - MattCaulder - 01-18-2018 Hey all! I;ve been digging into the history of D&D and naturally that brought me here! Really excited to read up on the roots of D&D and see what people still playing in this setting are up to! Re: The Hello Thread! - Havard - 01-18-2018 MattCaulder Wrote:Hey all! Hello Matt! Welcome to the Comeback Inn! The history of D&D is a fascinating topic. We love talking about that here. I'm going to have a lot of people play this game again who haven't ever heard of it and I still have a lot of My original. Sorry about the inconveniance, but fighting bots is a daily chore on forums like this. Anyway, welcome to the Comeback Inn! ![]() I am glad to hear you are spreading the world of Blackmoor to new gamers. I would love to hear more about the time when you organized games at conventions! Do you have any stories to share? ![]() -Havard Re: The Hello Thread! - JamesMishler - 05-10-2018 Hello everyone! I'm James Mishler, otherwise known as Mystaros on the Mystara boards and sites. I also published some licensed Wilderlands products years ago in partnership with Bob Bledsaw (the first of that name). Long time Blackmoor fan, first time poster. Thanks for the add, Havard! In my recent quest to rediscover the roots of my own love for gaming, I have rediscovered Blackmoor through my copy of FFC and my copies of the DA series from TSR. In a classic case of gamer distraction, I have moved on from working on my Wilderlands campaign (which is on extended hiatus, anyway), to working on building a Blackmoor campaign. I am building it up from the elements outlined in the FFC, with elements from the DA series, but going in similar but different directions. I do not have the ZGG products; do they provide insights into Dave's original works not available in the other materials, or are they essentially a conversion of the original materials to 3rd and 4th edition? What fan-based materials do you feel are the most useful and interesting to consider? What is the policy for posting one's own fan materials, such as write-ups and maps? Thank you, and good gaming! Re: The Hello Thread! - Yaztromo - 05-10-2018 You are the most welcome here, Sir! All the best! To answer your question, Zeitgeist Games material in general is not a conversion of other material, but it is mostly new stuff (apart from the main settings books, we are talking of almost one hundred one-off adventures). How much of that is a genuine insight or expansion of Dave Arneson's true ideas for Blackmoor is a topic for high level scholars as he directly authored only small part of that material, but, as far as I understood, Dave Arneson supervised quite strictly the early productions and then less and less, depending on his health, unfortunately. Said that, I am running a campaign based on Zeitgeist Games MMRPG (all short adventures, sometimes connected in longer story arcs), adding DA stuff piecemeal, just to have longer adventures every now and then, and so far my players and I are having great fun. I hope you will have great fun too. 8) Re: The Hello Thread! - Havard - 05-11-2018 JamesMishler Wrote:Hello everyone! Hello James! Good to have you with us here old friend! ![]() Quote:In my recent quest to rediscover the roots of my own love for gaming, I have rediscovered Blackmoor through my copy of FFC and my copies of the DA series from TSR. Very fascinating! As you may know I am a huge fan of your older Mystara/Blackmoor works so I am very curious to see what you have in the works this time around! ![]() Quote:I do not have the ZGG products; do they provide insights into Dave's original works not available in the other materials, or are they essentially a conversion of the original materials to 3rd and 4th edition? That is a hot potatoe of a topic! Since you are familiar with the DA material, you will find that much of the material from these modules form the core of the ZGG line. The ZGG line moved the timeline 5 years foreward which ultimately did very little to the setting, just dragging out some ongoing conflicts which were not really adressed anyway. Some of the material ZGG added seem to be mostly about accomodating the needs of the new editions. Alterations of the Wizards Cabal to make room for the 3E Sorcerer, new spells, feats and Prestige Classes. Then you have other expansions to the setting such as the addition of a new pantheon (incorporating some material from Mystara and possibly Greyhawk) and the expansions on the elven culture and history, some of which feel a bit tagged on while other elements make the race more interesing and does find basis in the DA modules. Dungeons of Castle Blackmoor does seem to be one book that does contain more Dave Arneson content. Dave was a co-owner of ZGG, but how much he added himself and how much he left to his co-workers and freelancers to expand as they saw fit is something ZGG have kept close to their chest. Dustin and Jeff Quin's threads here on the boards might offer more input! ![]() Quote:What fan-based materials do you feel are the most useful and interesting to consider? Yikes, that is a tough one to answer. We are a small community here, but we have several very creative people so its hard to pick and choose. You might find that each of us have some differences in preference when it comes to Blackmoor so our visions are surely colored by that as well. Quote:What is the policy for posting one's own fan materials, such as write-ups and maps? I would love to see more of that! There are no particular restrictions here as long as we keep within fair use and avoid copyright violations. We would obviously like to keep in good terms with all the companies that have taken part in the pubication history of Blackmoor; WotC/TSR, Judges Guild, Zeitgest Games, Goodman Games, Code Monkey Press and others. But other than that, feel free to share your works! We would be honored to have them posted here on our boards. Looking forward to seeing what you are working on! ![]() -Havard Re: The Hello Thread! - hihama - 06-10-2018 Hello everybody, I'm Harri from Finland and been rpgholic for more years than I care to remember.
