AD&D has the Aarakocra. Classic D&D has another bird-like race, the Gyerians, which are a little silly, but flightless, which is why I thought of them. Also there is the Faenare in Classic D&D, who are a kind of "good Harpies".
In the Wilderlands, there are several birdlike humanoids, including the Hawkmen and the Nguak (Duckfolk).
In the kind of Blackmoor campaign I run, where I integrate both Mystara and the Wilderlands, I am thinking all of these races could be descendants of Scott Belfry's Avian Civilization.

PC2 -Top Balista. Dont have a page number right now, but they are detailed pretty early in the players booklet.

Giving this some more thought: Could the Avians be responsible for bringing Tarns to Blackmoor in the first place?
