City Maps: Maus - Havard - 02-13-2013

New map out!
For some odd reason the colors look a bit different here than on my HD.

Maus is the only City in the North that can be considered a metropolis. Its northern location and proximity to Skandaharian Raiders made me add two layers of city walls as well as two watch towers along the coastal area.

Some notes:
  • The Ruined Tower and Butcher's Street are mentioned in A Night in Maus (printed in the Wizards Cabal).
  • The High Temples of Phellia and Mwajin are mentioned in the BMPG.
  • Rallskeep is my name for the stronghold of Baron Piter Rall.

Anything missing or other suggestions/comments?

Re: City Maps: Maus - RobJN - 02-13-2013

Given the shelter from the spur of land to the north of Maus, and the channels/islands just off the eastern shore, I'm surprised that the city doesn't have anything like a shipyard.

I don't see any docks, but maybe that's just a scale thing. Also, I'd rotate the Merchant's District a bit counter-clockwise, to move it closer to the High Market -- it just seems that merchants' headquaters, guildhalls, etc. would be a bit closer to the marketplace.

"Plunk, plunk" go my two coppers. Smile

Re: City Maps: Maus - Yaztromo - 02-13-2013

I thought this was an ancient cityport and a trading station, so I'd expect a very sheltered port (when it was an outpost, I'm sure they choose a suitable place) with warehouses close to the docks.
Probably the port is right inside the city, with about everything else built around it...
You may want to have a quick familiarization trip to Bergen, not too far from you, as far as I know...

Good feedback! A shipyard is noted. I would imagine the docks to be close to the warehouse district, but perhaps they do indeed deserve their own label. Good point about the Merchant's District being closer to the High Market making sense.

I will try and include some of these changes in my next update of the map.

Lol!

You do make some good points here. I guess I was thinking more in terms of some or southern europe's ancient cities where the port is located outside of the main city, but your interpretation is also valid. I am not sure I am ready to go back to square one on the drawing board with this yet, but I will keep it in mind for later Smile

With that regard, I think you may like the upcoming map of Archlis...

Rome and Athens?

Yep.
Although they served more as vague inspirations than as direct models.

Re: City Maps: Maus - Yaztromo - 02-16-2013

They were on hills few km away from the port, so the port was another town alltogether (Pyraeus for Athens and Ostia for Rome), with two different circles of walls (that actually at some point in history were connected with the long walls of Athens, protecting the connecting road...).

Re: City Maps: Maus - Havard - 02-16-2013

Yeah, you are right, it is a pretty different setup than I have for Maus.

I didn't know about the city walls of Athens extending to Pyraeus btw. Nice detail Smile

Eheheh.... they were crucial during one of the Greek-Persian wars...

Re: City Maps: Maus - Havard - 10-22-2017

Looks like I need to add a few more locations to this map.
