Well, the TV series is just a wonderful spectacle, entertaining to a point where very few other TV events have ever gone.
As to the books, they are overlong, overcomplicated, and if there is a concept or structure to the plot, it escapes me, the fans, and nearly all the critics.
However, books one to three form some sort of closed circle, and are entertaining in so far as they are very, very conventional chivalric fantasy literature, with the added twist that no character is unkillable.
(Now, as my avatar indicates, I am very amused by the books' IMO strongest character, the imp Tyrion. The portrayal in the TV series is AMAZING.)
As to rereading it, do you like audiobooks? - Because the audiobook productions for the novels are superb!
(I have an audible subscription, which keeps those follies distinctively more affordable. I think each book costs around 100$ without the subscription.)
