Hey,

Watched a few episodes via some superawesome pal who send me the recordings on DVD,
and got to say, I'm very impressed so far!

If you yanks with HBO get the chance to watch this somehow, don't miss it!

Yours,

Rafe

Having read the first book nearly 10 years ago (and not having touched on it in the years since), I'm very pleased with what I've seen done with the parts I remember, and am pleased with the parts I don't remember, as well.

No complaints here in this part of the USA...

No complaints from here in Spain either.

So far, it's a charming run - not just "good", but "charming", making you want more.

I certainly liked the episode s so far quite a lot - and, as I often state, I'm not necessarily a fan of fantasy literature. :)

I read book #1 years ago and remember it being pretty good, although I had a tough time keeping track of all of the characters. I don't get HBO, but if I did I would give this series a shot.

I was thinking of re-reading book #1 and working through the rest of the series. Is it worthwhile? I seem to recall hearing that book #5 would be released this summer....

Well, the TV series is just a wonderful spectacle, entertaining to a point where very few other TV events have ever gone.

As to the books, they are overlong, overcomplicated, and if there is a concept or structure to the plot, it escapes me,
the fans, and nearly all the critics.

However, books one to three form some sort of closed circle, and are entertaining in so far as they are very, very conventional
chivalric fantasy literature, with the added twist that no character is unkillable.

(Now, as my avatar indicates, I am very amused by the books' IMO strongest character, the imp Tyrion.
The portrayal in the TV series is AMAZING.)

As to rereading it, do you like audiobooks? - Because the audiobook productions for the novels are superb!

(I have an audible subscription, which keeps those follies distinctively more affordable.
I think each book costs around 100$ without the subscription.)

Hehe, yeah, I sympathize.

Either I use audiobooks when I want to get tired (which was kind of counterproductive when I was listening to The Black Dahlia  ), or I listen to them when I'm doing rather mundane work (laundry, etc.). Has been a great help so far when it comes to learn about stuff that I usually don't have the time for. (Right now, I spend my laundry time getting through "For Whom The Bell Tolls", for example.)

My laundry machies are right next to my computer, so while I do laundry I hang out here. Much better than any audio book! 8)
