++++ START OF SESSION ++++

This week's session was entirely the major battle between a major Magic User and the rest of the party (mainly Elefus). I have taken some liberties to shorten the storyline without changing the end result. Otherwise this would be three times longer.

In a nutshell, it went as follows.

The party had opened a closet, finding some obtuse items Jacko pocked those. And the party's newly charmed enemy as requested, simply opened the secret door in the back of the closet. Note, due to space limits, only four party members be in this closet at a time. Upon opening the door, the party was found a 50 foot hallway, the other end of which were an Ogre and two spellcasters who were pre-prepared and ready to attack. In betwixt in this hallway was a web, apparently put there by a pre-cast spell. There was an open side door next to the spell casters.

There was some discussion as to the efficacy of Surprise. I plan to resolve this later.

Of note, one of the spellcasters sent two volleys at once of Magic Missile spells at Elefus which caused minor damage. The caster turned out to be higher level BattleMage who could cast 3 spells a turn and learned to his dismay that the magic plusses in Elefus magic ring, armor and shield absorbed 11 points per missile. (The real dismay was that the Battlemage learned each missile is rolled separately. So only die rolls that achieved more than 11 points of penetration caused any damage.)

The Battlemage cast a third defensive spell but was unannounced to keep it secret.

The party responded with some crossbow bolts and/or arrows from the back, notably from the other side of the closet. Meaning through one door, over two party members standing in the way of the next door, and then though that door, supposing they can even see the target. (Yes the party thinks this is normal.) I allowed the shot since the interposing Ogre was supposed to be missile fodder anyway. One of the bolts missed and hit the opposite wall, failed its saving throw and broke. (Ha ha, to the Player who always collects his spent bolts.)

Next Elefus cast a Flame Strike spell the enemy, mostly defeating the Ogre pincushion and one of the spell casters. Mysteriously, it had no effect on the Battlemage who seemed protected by a blue glowing sphere. Thereupon Elefus decided to actually march down the hall and physically fight, smashing what what was left of the Ogre.

Of note, the Party's charmed priest detected what was coming due to the motions of the Battlemage and closed the secret door.

The Battlemage fired back with a forked lightning bolt, just long enough to fill the hallway. THIS was effective enough for Elefus to take some major damage but still not enough for a threshold of pain check.

A second Ogre same though the side door in order to scoop up the Battlemage for a hasty retreat. However due to winning initiative roll and with another free swing for retreating, Elefus got another swing with his Mace of Disruption and finished off the next Ogre and the Battlemage.

Finally through the open door into what was apparently a kitchen, Elefus espied another Ogre about just about join the fray. Just then a large mallet smashed this new Ogre's head.

"Fee fi fo fum.", said a familiar looking Hill Giant.
