No doubt that Monte is a busy guy with lots of cool ideas.

For a while I had toyed with running Ptolus, his massive city campaign. I had been reading the updates on his webpage and finally one year at GenCon I bought the thing. It's freakin' huge. Makes the DCC RPG seem light. :P Never got around to running Ptolus, but love the concept.

My beef with kickstarter is really just, how much of this is "promises", and what really happens when something doesn't work out?

Like, I sponsored an Appendix N adventure project that includes, what, five or six different documents.

While I am not regretting my investment, I would be very surprised if we really got all of what was promised in the end.

Any experiences there? - Note that I am doing my own project, and staying away from kickstarter.

Oh, that wasn't meant as a slur towards BHP; just a general question. :)

I am just pretty weary of all the hype that comes with kickstarter. I only support BHP because I know them as reliable.
But some of the other stuff out there, and, oooh, there's plenty, NAH.

I have never invested in any Kickstarter project (or similar), but I am glad that the option exists because it allows smaller publishers to raise the money before actually publishing their material. While you wont know that the material in question will be published, Kickstarter (unlike IndieGoGo, apparently?) gives you back the money invested if the project isnt realized. (although some money may be lost through transactions, PayPal policy etc)

Sure you are paying for a product you havent seen yet, but if this is a product that you really want to see written then you might be persuaded to put some money into it.

The added publicity is a bonus. Having people aware of an upcoming product is a good way to open up to an even greater market.

If this system proves to work out, I'll happily support other projects as well.

Now, this was my first foray into the realm of kickstarter only; if I am pleased with the results, I will surely continue with similar endeavors.
