Games are on Thursday night sometime after 5:30PM at World's Best Comics, 9714 Warwick Blvd Newport News, Virginia 23601.

This week we had a Philly Steak and extra Mozzarella pizza. Not just the shredded mozzarella, the kind that are in big white lumps.

++++ START OF SESSION ++++

I introduced the new player by simply having the finger of a gawd zap him into the middle of the party. A 3rd level Dwarf Battlemage. Also mysteriously the party apparently had known him all thier lives and never knew he was never there before. (OK the last part I'm just playing with you, but I may as well.)

Going through the door opposite from where they entered last session, they entered into the short hallway with another door at the end.

Opening that, they ended up fighting another set or four Bugbears in yet another 20' by 20' room. Skipping details of that battle, there was a door on their right, and they found a concealed door on their left.

They decided to go through the concealed door.

What they found was a large religious area about 90 feet by 50 feet and 30 feet high ceiling. On the short wall to their right there was a bas-relief of a mob scene, the center of which had the head of a demon spewing purplish water into a series of tiered basins (The last of which never overflowed so it must have a drain). In the center of the room was a four foot high, ten foot diameter pool in the middle flanked on the opposite end with a black eight foot tall stone statue depicting humans, humanoids, and demons conjoined in disgusting ways. Behind the statue was a 20 foot wide alcove that appeared to be a black void with purplish flames leaping from top to bottom. In each corner of the room was 20 foot tall massive stone plynth with a statue of a Gargoyle at the top. At the far short wall, two huge 20 foot wide double-doors where closed.

Elefus cast a Detect Magic spell and the whole place radiated a dim magic, although some parts were more magical than others. (Like two of the gargoyles and the black statue.)

The party went over to inspect the pool and found it appeared to contain vinegary wine (because of the smell) and was about 2 feet deep in the middle. At the bottom of the pool were a smattering of gems and coins. While the party continued to explore the room, Grok moved past the pool to inspect the black void.

At that point two of the Gargoyles (yes the ones that radiated more magic), flew down from their plynths towards Grok. They never arrived as our ever and alert party mainly Elefus knocked the closest one down to Grok with his Mace of Disruption during its descent and destroyed it. The next one never made it either, because as soon as Elefus determined what it was he had destroyed, he simply destroyed it with his Cleric turning ability.

"They were simply disguised Zombies.", Elefus belabored, picking up one of the cloaks they were wearing. This garment is magical, it was their disguise.

The party filed it away in one of their bags of holding.

Meanwhile, Aerys flew to where the other two "regular" Gargoyle statues were resting on their plynths and attempted to use leverage to push them down, making a large noisy crash.

This prompted an hour-long argument between the two players. One saying don't do that because it will attract attention in the dungeon, the one playing Aerys arguing he was protecting the party.

To exacerbate the first Player's point. An Ogre Chieftain entered the room from the same concealed entrance the party came through. So they had to fight that. The end result was I had to explain the Ogre was going to show up anyway. He was the supervisor of the last four Bugbears they had just defeated who resided behind the regular door they did NOT go through in the previous room. It had simply took this long for him to get dressed and don his armor and leave his room.

I also took a look at Aery's player sheet and determined he did not have enough of a Strengh score to knock down one of the "regular" Gargoyle statues anyway. So the argument was moot.

That part being over, Grok decided to get on his tippy toes and get some of the coins or gems from the four foot high, ten foot diameter pool.

This is when the black disgusting statue woke up and slowly, started to move towards Grok. Fortunately for Grok, even though he as encumbered down to a movement of 3, the module stated the statue starts slowly at a movement of 2, so Grok was able to back away and let others fight it. It turned out this was a Stone Golem with a magical plus 2 or better weapon to hit. So Jacko's Crossbow of Speed (which conveys a +1 to hit) was of no effect. The higher levels of the party had such weapons and Huang got the honor point for the kill.

Later some party members made their Religion Knowledge check and learned they could have avoided this encounter if they had washed any coin or gem in the wall fountain and "donated" (sacrificed) it into the pool.

The black void in the alcove turned out to be a black velvet curtain with purple embroidery to look like flames.
