Games are on Thursday night sometime after 5:30PM at World's Best Comics, 9714 Warwick Blvd Newport News, Virginia 23601.

This week we had Philly Cheese Steak pizza.

++++ START OF SESSION ++++

The party picked up where it left of after killing the Half-Orc Assassin and forcing the Battle Mage into retreat.

Jacko opened the secret door in the Mage's room and peered down a 30 foot hall. His Dork Elf senses detected yet another secret door at the end to the left. Tenzen took a lit torch an attempted to fly down the hall and ran smack into a Wall of Force. (Picture Nigel the pelican from "Finding Nemo" flying into a window.)

The party figured out that any Wall of Force would be a spell with a time limit, decided to wait it out until the spell expired. Going in, they found a room with a veritable Treasure Trove of stuff the Battle Mage left behind they followed up by casting a Detect Magic. The items below are followed by the party member that claimed it, magic items are marked by a parenthetical (M). 1) A pair of books(M) - Tenzen, 2) Gems, iron box containing a Golden Skull(M) - Jacko, 3) A conical hat with runes that spelled "Broncos" was burned, 4) Crystal Ball(M) - Jacko, 5) Books obviously marked spell books - Tenzen, 6) A Mirror(M) - Jacko

Jacko, using the Wall Map he squirreled away from the Mage's Room coaxed the party back into the main hall where they were originally following the Gully Dwarf leader. Going through yet another secret door, they it led them down a tunnel and back up into a circular chamber filled with mere refuse and another hall leading East for 70 feet with a door on the left and a passage turning right.

Ignoring the door and wishing to avoid battle (the map also revealed the contents of each room) the party turned right (and South) to the room labeled "Room of Kewl Statues". Each statue had something with it, but I'll skip to party combat with the room's inhabitants, four Will-O-Wisps, which were extremely hard to hit, by the way. It eventually took Elefus and his Mace of Disruption to kill them.

Back to the statues: Lettered A through I, not shown in the order dealt with, but put back in alphabetical order. In order to ease the narrative, the Identify spell conducted the following week is included to explain the items found.

A. Beholder statue, it's eye was fixated on a scroll tube on the floor in front of it. The party detected it as a trap but could figure out how to disarm it so they sent in their last Gully Dwarf prisoner to pick it up. Again, the rest of the party stood back. The Dwarf was engulfed in flames by a Fire Trap spell. Ironically the scroll tube contained a Protection from Fire spell.

B. Statue of a blue dragon admiring a three inch cube place in front of it. Again none of the Players cold disarm the obvious pressure plate trap underneath the cube. So Aery's owner played a HackMaster coupon that disarmed any one trap. (Debriefing revealed a poison dart would fire from the statue's mouth.) The cube turned out to be a Cube of Opulent Lodging (Model I) Which expands to a 25 foot cabin, with an internal temperature of 60F, a waterbed, a fireplace, four comfy chairs, a table, a medium size basket of firewood, and a complete set of cooking utensils. (As opposed to a Model III, which comes with a raised bed, down pillows, wall-to-wall carpeting, a door lock impossible to pick, a set of perfumes and aphrodisiacs.)

C. Statue of a Fire Giant holding a spear. No trap here but the Identify spell revealed the spear was a Cursed Backbiter, cumulative 5% chance of taking effect with each use. It twists around and hits you in the back once activated. Once activated it cannot be let go.

D. Statue of a Manticore poised over a Crossbow. Turns out to be a Crossbow of Speed missing its string. Can only be fixed by enchanting a new string or until a string from another bow is used. Further more new strings (only) will break if a 1 is rolled on a 20 sided die.

E. A statue of a Medusa wearing a cloak of velvety deep black. Identify revealed the cloak is a Cloak of Poisonousness that kills with no saving throw.

F. A Mummy statue holding a quarterstaff in one hand and a ceramic bottle in the other. It was a normal staff with a Glyph of Warding (blindness) placed upon it. The bottle was a bottle of acid with that causes four four-sided dice of damage.

G. A statue of an Ogre Magi with a silver chain with three Cubes of Force.

H. Rakshaha statue with a Ring of Delusion.

I. A statue of a Wight crouching before a silver urn, containing dust of sneezing and choking.

Backtracking to the magic items found in the Battle Mage's lair they identified:

Or not, in the case of the pair of books.

A Crystal Ball of Hypnosis attuned to the Demon Lord imprisoned in this dungeon. Fortunately it takes effect only upon use, not just casual handling (per the rules of the Identify spell).

An alphabetized set of spell books, per level, apparently abandoned by the Mage. (I won't publish them here, they will be appended to Tanzen's character sheet.)

A Mirror of Mental Prowess. It lets you read the thoughts of anyone reflected therein.

The Golden Skull was identified as an Orb of Abyssal Death. It grants the following powers to the possessor: Detect Lie, Know Alignment, and Poison (as the reverse of the Neutralize Poison spell). And increase of Charisma to 20 against Chaotic Evil creatures and 30 if the possessor gets angry. If the possessor does get angry, he loses a regular point of Charisma permanently.
