Has anyone read the RPG history book, Of Dice and Men? Apparently it is similar to Jon Peterson's Playing at the World, though less academic (and possibly less accurate). I am curious about how Arneson/Blackmoor is presented in it. -Havard |

Jon's book is much better. OD&M has two key elements: (1) game history (2) accounts of his personal campaign experiences OD&M has too much of #2 and not enough of #1. The author does talk about wandering the streets of Lake Geneva and finding the old office building where TSR was. Kind of neat, but not earth-shattering stuff. I bought it from B&N at 20% off and with a gift card, so I got it essentially for nothing. It was worth that but I'd hate to buy it at regular prices. |

Thanks Fin, looks like the focus of this book is somewhat different from what I am most interested in. Although there are a few minor issues I disagree with in Peterson's Playing at the World book, I generally find it excellent. -Havard |
