Post subject:  What be... "Evensong"?

...Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate
And though I oft have passed them by
A day will come at last when I
Shall take the hidden paths that run
West of the Moon, East of the Sun.

- J. R. R. Tolkien, "A Walking Song"

Hi all,

Here, with the necessary brevity, I address a few questions an interested reader of this board might probably come up with!

For anything not explicitely answered in this Q&A section, kindly go forth and use the section of our board, and ask yourself!

WHAT BE... Evensong?

Evensong is an international association of private roleplaying games that take place in the World of Blackmoor, as created by Dave Arneson.
It is a non-committal, non-profit-oriented volunteer project whose goal it is to cultivate the memory of Dave Arneson and the other founders of the tabletop roleplaying hobby.

In game and setting terms, Evensong is the sequel to the adventures of The Company of the Maiden,
as seen in The Last Fantasy Campaign, and other associated games,
and supposedly set within the contuinity that the previous games of the Last Fantasy Campaign have established.

WHAT BE... The Last Fantasy Campaign?

Named in honor of The First Fantasy Campaign, and usually simply referred to as the LFC,
the The Last Fantasy Campaign aims to write an epilogue to the Blackmoor setting, as created by Dave Arneson.
Meaning, it is our goal to present satisfying conclusions to all the stories left unfinished by Mr Arneson at the time of his death.

It should be notable that the LFC is mainly based on The Grim Winter,
a Blackmoor-based PBP that originally wasn't supposed to become any sort of "herald of fandom", or anything alike.

Games usually regarded as part of the LFC include as of January 2012:

The Grim Winter, 2005-2009.
The War of the Thieves, 2006-2008.
The Road, also known as The Road to the Promised Land, 2009.
The Promised Land, 2009-2012, ongoing as of the time of this writing.

With the conclusion of The Promised Land, The Last Fantasy Campaign is regarded as complete,
as all major plots as originally devised by Mr Arneson have been brought to conclusion.

WHAT BE... The Company of the Maiden?

The Company of the Maiden is the name of the gaming group that played through the The Last Fantasy Campaign.
The judge of the The Company of the Maiden and The Last Fantasy Campaign during that time was the one known as .

AGAIN, WHAT BE... Evensong?

As a part of the ongoing chronology of The Last Fantasy Campaign,
Evensong is set in the time after the end of The Company of the Maiden's adventures,
or telling side stories related to the The Last Fantasy Campaign that are supposed to take place in the same chronology.

Rather than being a closely coordinated effort like the core of The Last Fantasy Campaign,
Evensong is supposed to be a collection of side stories, odds, ends.

Basically, any game of any sorts that is taking place within the The Last Fantasy Campaign's continuity,
and endorsed by any members of The Company of the Maiden, can be regarded as part of Evensong.

Games generally regarded as part of the Evensong circle of stories are:

The Tomb of Rahotep, 2008-?, by Sir Clarence.
The Ghosts of Summer, 2011-2012, by Le Noir Faineant.
Tales from the Vales, 2012-?, by Havard.

To kickstart the campaign, Le Noir Faineant will be hosting three events between 2012 and 2013:

SO, THIS... A "Living" game?

Not quite. Basically, this is an association of people who share the same world.
For us, it's not the point if you refine the campaigns so they fit in the chronology we have established,
or, if you play online, or at your kitchen table.

Basically, if you feel you belong here, chances are, you really belong here! :)

SO, THIS... Associated with the Blackmoor MMRPG by Zeitgeist Games?

No, not at all.

While we maintain a friendly and welcoming relationship to all the people associated with the Blackmoor d20 publication,
we are acting completely on our own.

Also, again, this is not a "Living" campaign, or an MMRPG, just a collective of private games.

It might, however, occur, that somebody wants to run a game based on one of the old MMRPG episodes as part of Evensong.

We greatly encourage this, the same way we greatly encourage any gaming related to Dave Arneson's World of Blackmoor.

But we are neither formally nor informally associated with the Blackmoor MMRPG.

HOW DO... Join us here?

As of January 2012, simply ask any of the people with the Red Forum Names, like ,
and they'll provide you with any necessary information.

HOW DO... Start a game, or associate an existing game?

As of January 2012, simply ask any of the people with the Red Forum Names, like ,
and they'll provide you with any necessary information.

HOW DO... Create character?

If you want to enter an existing game, get in contact with the respective judge/referee/Dungeonmaster,
and ask him for his preferences on character creation, and of course, if he or she will admit you.

We will eventually introduce a system that allows you to use the same character in different ongoing games,
but as of January 2012, nothing on that is tested, let alone ripe for publication.

WHAT BE... Ongoing games?

As of January 2012, since The Last Fantasy Campaign isn't finished yet,
Evensong has still to start.

However, there are already some games that can be considered part of Evensong:

The Tomb of Rahotep, 2008-?, by Sir Clarence.
The Ghosts of Summer, 2011-2012, by Le Noir Faineant.
Tales from the Vales, 2012-?, by Havard.

Also, Le Noir Faineant has announced the following events:

WHO BE... Key people?

Like any good dragon worth his money, we have more heads than just one.
Now, for the moment, January 2012, as this endeavor is about to get started, please direct all your questions and suggestions to .

However, be aware that the supreme ruling body is, as of January 2012, The Company of the Maiden:

In case there is some sort of conflict, it's the decission of its members that will serve as a rule.

HOW DO... Support us?

You can do two things: Play the game, and spread the word.

If you have a website, to the overall http://www.blackmoor.mystara.us presentation, or, to message board,
will be by far the biggest help you can give us.

If you want to start or join a game, all the necessary information is provided above already.

HOW DO... Support YOU?

We'll be delighted if we can help you with something that cultivates, encourages, or enhances your game.
In case you need something, as of January 2012, simply ask any of the people with the Red Forum Names, like ,
and they'll look to see after your wishes.

WHAT BE... Copyright status?

Blackmoor, and all associated names and brands are copyright of the respective copyright holders,
and any usage of copyrighted material is only intended to occur under the terms of .

Any material presented on this board is the intellectual property of its respective authors, and not supposed to be reproduced without obtaining their respective permission first.

However, by submitting information you grant a license to the head organizers of the Evensong project to reproduce your statement or work
within the context of other, non-committal, non-profit-oriented publications and projects associated with Evensong.

In other words:

We don't want to steal from anyone.
We don't want to be stolen from either.
And we want to preserve the right to archive or compile our stuff here without having to sort your contributions out first.
